Henrick Olesen body of work post 2004 would not be considered altermodern. Although his work is represented in multiple formats (posters, fliers, text, collages, Found object sculptures and spatial interventions ), altermodernism is not represented within his work. Altermodern has been defined, but not limited to incorporating globalization, communication and affecting the way we live.
Olesen 's work is visual and thought provoking, History and in depth research seem to be present in all his work. In his piece Alan Turing 2008, Olesen focuses on the portrait of this young man dated 1928. Turing a brilliant mathematician and a homosexual, worked for the British Army and was persecuted at the same time. Many of his works deal with the lack of positive history or history itself of gay persons throughout time.
In another piece, titled Imitation/Enigma 2008 Olesen combines box, rope , tape, padding material and blanket to manifest the structure of power and systems. Although his themes are universal: persecution, power and normalizations of daily objects, his globalization is only represented by the fact his work has been displayed in many countries. I find his work to be of a historical perspective whether imagined or real. Contemporary, postmodern represents Olesen, altermodern we'll save for later.

third assignment
Extreme Tension Louise Bourgeois
I do, 2010

Louise Bourgeois
"Everyone should have the right to marry. To make a commitment to love someone forever is a beautiful thing." - Louise Bourgeois
In the New York Times, Holland Cotter writes about the life of Louise Bourgeois upon her death at 98 years of age. Although this article is written to inform the world of her passing, the context is significant and dense with the artists accomplishments and the struggles she endured throughout her life. A must read for the beginner as a great introduction to Louise Bourgeois : A great artist and trail blazer for women and art.

In the article History From Her Perspective, published in Artslant, Georgia Fee reviews the Center Pompidou show titled elles@centrepompidou. This show is from the gallerys permanent collection and features only women artist on all five floors. From early 20th century to Louise Bourgeois piece "Extreme Tension" 2007 the show manifests many different styles. This exhibit seems an unforgettable experience for anyone who was lucky enough to be in Paris and attend.

Louise Bourgeois work seems to come from her pain she endured as a child and later on as a young women. Her relationship with her Father and how her father viewed a womens worth had a great affect on Bourgeois art. The color red and the phallic shape were very prominant in her pieces.
Her work was truly created for her own salvation and was only viewed and coveted later on in her career. Her gestures were large in scope and radical for her time. Louise Bourgeois was a true maverick.

second assignment
I have yet to attend this show but having read the press release on Space Gallery website , I can't wait. I love the idea about affordable art and the fun sarcastic wit they seem to bring to their work. Humor is the best side dish, it goes with anything! I have pulled a few images off the site, Hoping to make it their saturday before work. Yeah !!!!
first assignment
In Gutenberg's development of the printing press with movable replaceable letters, he set in motion the the mass production of printed material and brought information to many people throughout Europe.
These advancements continue to influence contemporary art making due to the fact it is still used today. The printmaking form (style) that is used still gives a positive visual appeal, but with advanced technology these forms (styles) can be transformed into animation where it gives another dimension and depth to the visual piece.
Photocopier art relates in the sense that it to has evolved from its humble beginnings. A simple copy of an art piece to collages, copies of collages then collages made from copies than copied, finally to be mass produced and sent out to the world. The difference is in the immediate (and I mean quick) the copier offers over the art form of the letter press.
